April 20, 2012 - Fun Fly Friday

This weekend was supposed to be the long-scheduled Formation Clinic in North Carolina.  Six of us were going to fly down Friday morning for the clinic and come back Sunday afternoon after the All Up mass formation flight.  Unfortunately, mother nature intervened, as she is won't to do.  Friday morning was foggy.  Friday afternoon and Saturday looked good, but heavy rain was forecasted all day Sunday, and Saturday evening didn't look very good either.  We knew we would not be able to get back Sunday and even late Saturday evening looked iffy.  So, with a heavy heart, we had to cancel.

Since I had already arranged to take a day off work, I took Friday off as planned and went flying Friday afternoon with Bruce R. and Scott S.

Here sits the RV, about ready to go flying.

We met at Easton, briefed, and then did some serious formation practice:  welded wing and echelon turns, close trail, breaks and rejoins.   After that we landed at Cambridge and enjoyed lunch at Kays, the onfield restaurant.

After Cambridge, we did a little more formation practice and some follow-the-leader, then landed at Miller's Farm.

Farmer Miller taking us on a tour of his Chicken Houses.

When he opened the door, I was stunned to see thousands of little chickens walking around.

It takes only seven weeks to go from chick to harvestable chicken.

Farmer Miller is a fellow airplane enthusiast and has a bunch of projects in one of his buildings.

A Champ sans wings.

An old "Lark" behind a bunch of equipment.

A farm cat prowls in the shadows.

It was quite pleasant sitting underneath a big shade tree sipping a cool drink.

Getting ready to mount up and head for home.

Taxiing out.  Farmer Miller watched us takeoff from his golfcart.

On the downwind leg.  Scott has just made a low pass with smoke on.

A steep U-turn after a low pass down the grass strip.

The runway is in the center of the picture.

Heading home with Bruce R.

After Bruce diverted to Easton, I went down low to take some pictures.

A natural T.

I was sorry I missed the Formation Clinic but at least we did have a great flying day today.
